First Call For Help was established through a coordinated community effort that began in 1997. After 2 years of collaboration, the helpline became operational in August of 1999. The program has had many partners supporting the development and growth of the helpline. The current funding partners are:

Community Caring Council
Southeast Missouri Hospital
Missouri Foundation for Health
City of Cape Girardeau
City of Jackson
Cape Girardeau County, Senior Mill Tax

First Call For Help is a member of the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (airs.org) that sets the operational standards for Information and Referral Programs. These standards cover criteria set forth by AIRS for inclusion and exclusion of resources in the database. The inclusion/exclusion criteria used by First Call For Help is approved by the program’s Advisory Committee and kept on file for reviews and updates.
